NEWS NOTES! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Please keep Dr. Jeannine Bellamy (Head, Clinical Sciences) in your thoughts and prayers. She has been released from the UAB Medical Center; however, she will be recovering at home with physical therapy for several weeks. You can send cards of well wishes to her at P. O. Box 831091, Tuskegee, AL 36083. * * * Thank you to Dr. Pamela Guy (Clinical Sciences), Dr. David McKenzie (Clinical Sciences), Yanira Rivera (2010 TUSVM student), Adrienne Morris (2011 TUSVM student), Kevin Simmons (2010 TUSVM student), and Kristen Flemming (2013 TUSVM student) for assisting with the interview and photo shoot for the Library of Congress on March 8, 2010. Also, Dr. McKenzie assisted with the pre-vet student (Tia Robinson) photo shoot as the UNCF scholar during the UNCF Empower Me Tour on March 9, 2010. * * * The President’s Essay Contest schedule: March 9 — registration ends; March 19 —ubmissions due to Provost Office; March 30-31 - Preliminary competition; and April 18 — final competition. * * * Congratulations to Ryan K. Burke (junior student, Clinical Laboratory Sciences) on being elected as President of the Tuskegee University Student Government Association (SGA) for 2010-2011. Burke is from Macon, GA. * * * TUSVM students Keith Harper (2011), Jillian Austin (2011), Trevi Yu (2011), and Tara Boozer (2010) along with Dr. Caroline Schaffer (Clinical Sciences) were featured in a photo in the January 15, 2010, issue of JAVMA. * * * Congratulations to Darlene Adams (AV-AT Lab) on being named Staff Senate Chair for 2009-2010. * * * Congratulations to the Tuskegee University Department of Nursing Class of 2009 for achieving 100 percent pass rate in the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Entry into the practice of nursing is regulated by the licensing authorities within each State. Nursing students from every school/college in the United States and its territories upon completion of the requirement for graduation from their respective institution must pass this examination to be eligible to practice professional nursing and be authorized to use R.N. (Registered Nurse) beside their names. To ensure public protection, each jurisdiction requires a candidate for licensure to pass an examination that measures the competencies needed to perform safely and effectively as a newly licensed, entry-level nurse. The graduating class of 2009 passed this examination with flying colors. * * * Nominations for Staff Performance Award and Nominations for Employee of the Year Award deadline is March 31, 2010, 4:30 p.m. All nominations must be turned in to Room 116, Williams-Bowie Hall (Darlene Adams) or Room 44-108 Bioethics Building (Marilyn DeNeal).
