TUSKEGEE’S SCHOOL OF VETERINARY MEDICINE OPEN HOUSE WELCOMES ASPIRING VETERINARIANS
TUSKEGEE, Ala. (September 11, 2009) - Choosing a career can be tough, especially because it is one of the most important decisions a person can make. To help with that decision, Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine (TUSVM) is opening its doors to students, teachers, counselors, and parents on Saturday, October 3, 2009, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, at the veterinary medical school complex. All participants are also encouraged to attend a welcome session on Friday, October 2, 2009, at 6:00 PM in the Patterson Hall Auditorium.
TUSVM is offering a behind-the-scenes tour of its facilities to help prospective students learn more about the veterinary medical program here at Tuskegee. “There is really a little something for everyone in attendance at this year’s TUSVM Open House,” said Tovah Dorsey, Open House Chair and a member of the TUSVM Class of 2012.
“We are extending invitations to schools in the surrounding Alabama and Georgia counties. The outdoor activities such as the tours, training demonstrations, fun and games, food, give a-ways, and information booths are for all participants. However, the educational seminars will be geared toward high school students with an interest in animals and undergraduates leaning towards a career in veterinary medicine or a related field of study,” concludes Dorsey.
Pre-registration is encouraged for attending and the registration deadline is September 25, 2009. Registration is a must for anyone attending the educational seminars. Admittance to the Open House is free to all participants. To register, contact Tovah Dorsey at tdorsey45@yahoo.com. Completed registrations can be faxed to the veterinary school at 334.727.8472.
”The Open House will give the public an opportunity to talk with Tuskegee’s veterinary medical students and faculty. We believe the personal touch will make that all-important career decision a little easier. We want young people, their families, and career counselors to know the many opportunities that await them if they choose a career in veterinary medicine,” said Dr. Ruby Perry, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at TUSVM.
”We in this career field see veterinary medicine as a career of choices because earning the Doctor of veterinary Medicine degree unlocks the door to many options, all of which help people and animals in many ways. Our graduates pursue careers in private practice, public health, military service, industry, biomedical research, and academia,” Dr. Perry continued.
