Strategic Directions ( Strategic Plan)                                                                                                      College  of Veterinary Medicine (CVMNAH) 2007-2011    Tuskegee University       home

1. Fully accredited high caliber academic programs in veterinary medicine, nursing, occupational therapy and clinical laboratory sciences whose graduates are among the best in their respective professions. In the immediate future, the objective is to successfully receive full accreditation in 2006 for veterinary medicine and at the appropriate times for the other professional health programs in the College.

2. To continue to recruit well qualified and prepared students to each of the two schools and produce graduates of The College that are well trained as evidenced by high passing rates on NAVLE and other health professions examinations in the SNAH.

3. Advancing Biomedical Research and the new PhD Program in Integrative Biosciences as well as all areas of Graduate Education in cooperation with the College of Agriculture, Environmental & Natural Sciences (CAENS); expanding and/or creating new partnerships within TU as well as externally with other appropriate organizations and institutions.

4. Reaching Out (Service with Excellence) to each other, to the local community, to the nation and to the world so as to share, assist and uplift and serve with pride in such areas as rural health and development, in health disparities to address the needs of underserved populations (e.g. Clinical services, Veterinary Hospital etc.)

5. Strengthening and expanding the link between the two schools of The College (School of Veterinary Medicine, and School of Nursing & Allied Health), to exploit the One Medicine ~ One Health framework so as to link animal health and human health; and to promote it to address health disparities as well as emerging risk agents locally, nationally and internationally.

6. Advancing the International frontiers of The College through strategic projects designed to continue to positively impact Tuskegee’s global communities through the One Medicine-One Health framework.

7. Launching of two new initiatives designed to position The College in a strategic position to ensure its long-term commitment to excellence. These are:

Partnership for Excellence: (for each school - SVM and SNAH): This new initiative is designed to further strengthen the financial and human resources of The College through selective and well planned developmental efforts. Both the Partnerships and the fund raising efforts are critical to provide alternatives to some of the external threats that The College faces now as the federal budget and federal support appears to shrink annually.

Leadership for the 21st Century (for each school - SVM and SNAH): This second strategic initiative is designed to select, train and mentor young graduates who can eventually replace the current leadership in The College as well as to serve in leadership roles even in there areas of the biomedical profession.
